The United Nations pays different types of reimbursement to troop- and police-contributing countries for capabilities deployed to peace operations, namely personnel, major equipment and self sustainment. Reimbursement costs are reflected as expenditures under group 1 of peacekeeping budgets.

Member States are also paid for capabilities provided under letter of assist.
